True Hero Essay

Batman, Superman, and Spiderman are common examples of heroes. They pervade our modern culture from comic books, to television shows, to movies. However, heroes can certainly come in other facets of life besides literature. Benjamin Disraeli, a British Prime Minister, said of heroes that “The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example. ” Perhaps throughout all of history there is no better example of this than Jesus Christ. He is the embodiment of steadfastness, understanding, and self-sacrifice.

Steadfastness is represented in many ways when talking about Jesus Christ. Steadfastness means never changing, and Jesus was, is and always will be the same; according to the bible, in Lamentations 3:22, “ The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. ” Jesus is a hero because of how understanding he is. Having walked the earth himself, Jesus understands better than anyone our struggles. He faced the same struggles and temptations we face everyday, and yet he was perfect.

He was sinless, did nothing wrong, and that is remarkable. How many people can say they are perfect, without fibbing? Perhaps Jesus is the ultimate definition of self-sacrifice; he gave his own life in order to cover the sins of everyone. We could not have paid for our sins, but Jesus could because of his sinless, and perfect life he lived. Imagine having to endure pain and agony on a cross, with nails piercing in your hands, thorns gripping your brow, only out of love.

He could have called a thousand angels to rescue himself, but instead of condemning, he condoned everyone of their sins. That is the ultimate self-sacrifice. My credence is Jesus the only hero because of the three reasons stated in this essay, his steadfastness, understanding, and self sacrifice. Because of his clement towards us, he is worthy of our praise. Jesus told everyone he would be coming back one day. We are to wait and be faithful to Jesus until he comes.
