POLLUTION AND ITS EFFECT IN OUR LIVES.
In this globalization era, there is a lot of pollution that has been made by us, the human itself. There are few types of pollution such as air pollution, water and sound pollution that are currently affecting our country’s development nowadays. This matter concerned a lot of institutions either from government sector or non- government sector. Due to the development of technology, many ways have been identified to fix this problem. This essay will address about what pollution is and the effect of it towards human health, environment and also our economy.
Based on the research made by Sir Allan Junior, February 1959 and the latest research conducted by Dr. Louis Tim, the pollution happens by the human itself. The statistics increased drastically due to the fast development across the world. Other than that, we can see the evidence in the article, Berita Harian, December 2002; Tun. Dr. Mahathir did mention about the pollution and the effect to our environment. It is clearly shown that the problem have been worrying our former Prime Minister because it is really serious and may affect not just our health but also our country and also can stop us from achieving Malaysian’s Vision of 2020.
Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that can cause adverse charge. Pollution can take the form of chemical substances or energy, such as noise, heat or light. Pollutants, the components of pollution can be either foreign substances or energies or naturally occurring contaminants. Pollution is often classified as point source or nonpoint source pollution. Pollution brings nothing other than negative effects that is why we should try our best to prevent it from occuring for the sake of our next generation. When we are talking about pollution, we know it will bring bad effect to us, the human’s health. Adverse quality of air can kill many organisms including humans. Ozone pollution can cause respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, throat inflammation, chest pain, and congestion mostly because of the smoke released from vehicle due to the increasement of the number of vehicle on
the road. Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day, mostly due to contamination of drinking water by untreated sewage in developing countries. Oil spills can cause skin irritations and rashes. Noise pollution induces hearing loss, high blood pressure, stress, and sleep disturbance. Mercury has been linked to developmental deficits in children and neurologic symptoms. Older people are majorly exposed to diseases induced by air pollution. Those with heart or lung disorders are under additional risk. Children and infants are also at serious risk. Lead and other heavy metals have been shown to cause neurological problems. Chemical and radioactive substances can cause cancer and as well as birth defects. In conclusion, human’s health are badly affected because of pollution occurred in our surroundings. Other than that, the emission of greenhouse gases leads to global warming which affects ecosystems in many ways. Nitrogen oxides are removed from the air by rain and fertilize land which can change the species composition of ecosystems. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain which lowers the pH value of soil. Soil can become infertile and unsuitable for plants. This will affect other organisms in the food web. Smog and haze can reduce the amount of sunlight received by plants to carry out photosynthesis and leads to the production of tropospheric ozone which damages plants. Lastly, if we didn’t do something to help to reduce pollution, we are the one have to suffer since the air we use to inhale the oxygen is unhealthy and the plants that we eat is lack of vitamin A, D, E and K which is really important for us to get healthy body. Next, pollution also can bring affects to our country’s economy. Our economy depending on most of outdoor activities. The disease that usually occurs is skin disease. For example, when the smokes entered atmosphere, it will makes the atmosphere getting thicker and when the rain goes down, it’ll surely be an acid rain and since the acidity is high then our skin can’t resist with it and automatically will be a disease. Besides that, our country economy can become weak because the activities cannot be run as normally. When the air is polluted, people will be scared to go out to perform their routines so the productivities decreased and the economy also will be affected. In conclusion, the employer should find a solution to ease their employee’s burden when they got sick especially during working hours such as by giving insurance protection. It’s not just makes the employee feels guarantee of
their job but also the productivities also can run smoothly and our economy will run as normal since people can work and get money, and they can use the money to buy their needs and demands which can make our economy cycle increased.
In conclusion, pollution brings a lot of bad effect not just to our environment but also to our health and our country’s economy. There’s a lot of evidence that we can see clearly about pollution and we as the citizen of our country should do something to stop the pollution. By looking at the effect of pollution, the solution that crossed my mind are the government role in order to control the pollution in our country such as by enforcing the law of imposing heavy penalties against perpetrators. The government also can conduct research to find new technologies that can be used to help reduce pollution. For example, government is to channel funds to specific bodies to conduct research to find ways to reduce pollution such as by Ministry of Science and Technology. Whenever the solutions are initiated, they can directly use it to help to improve the quality of air in our country. Therefore, the government should encourage the citizens in our country to get involved in such programs to look for a new idea that we can use to reduce the pollution problem. Even though, the government plays the most important role to overcome this problem, but still we as the citizen in our country have the responsibilities to save our environment. This way is effective to prevent the pollution from continuing and gives the bad effect to us.
