Retention is the ability of
the prosthesis to resist the movement of denture away from the supporting
tissues/teeth (GPT-8). Concern for removable partial denture is retention when
compare to other prosthesis. The use of attachment act as a direct retainer
which can be subdivided into extra coronal and intra coronal. Attachment is a
connection device between removable and fixed parts of combined prosthesis. It
can be prefabricated or customizes. Main disadvantage of this extra coronal
attachments are their aesthetically compromised nature when used in visible
area, there comes the need for intracoronal attachments. This case report
describes the use of rhein 83 precision attachment in Kennedy’s class 1 mod 1
situation.                    Precision
attachment can be described as a retainer used in fixed and removable partial
denture construction consisting of a metal receptacle and a closely fitting
part, the former is usually contained within the normal or expanded contours of
the crown of the abutment tooth, and the latter is attached to a pontic or to
the denture frame work 1.               Intra coronal
attachments have been used since 4th century but gained popularity
in 20th century with Dr. HERMAN E.S. CHAYES, formulating the
principle of internal attachments in 1906.4(1)

is an invaluable tool in the field of restorative and implant dentistry. They
are used to overcome the problems of alignment and excessive loss of tissue in
the oral cavity in implant work.This article presents a case in which rigid attachments were used
as a mode of retention keeping in mind patients esthetics, function and
financial conditions. Patient name Girjamma, 38 years old presents with the
chief complain of missing maxillary anterior teeth (11,12,21) and posterior
teeth (15,16,17,26,27)  due to caries
which were extracted 6 months ago. On intraoral examination periodontal
condition of remaining teeth were found to be good. Treatment planning of
anterior 9 unit FPD considering 6 abutment teeth with attachment supported CPD
was made depending on patient financial condition.

impressions were made using alginate (3M ESPE) and poured using type 3 gypsum product (Kalabhai Kalstone). Diagnostic
maxilla mandibular relation was recorded and casts were articulated. Wax pattern with acrylic teeth for anterior FPD was
tried in patient mouth for approval.
consent from patient crown preparation were done i.r.t 13, 14, 22, 23, 24, 25
followed by gingival retraction using foam cord and compri cap was done and
final impression made using monophase silicone impression material. Temporary
bridge was given on the same day using Protemp temporary material.

              Metal framework try-in with Rhein
83 attachments was done in patient mouth and after proper shade selection final porcelain build up on framework was done. Upon
bisque try in of framework zenith marking intra orally for pink porcelain
build-up was done using lead pencil .Framework
pick-up was done for fabrication of CPD framework. Anterior FPD was cemented
using GIC cement and CPD framework try in was done followed by jaw relation
record with the framework. CPD try in was done and final CPD insertion with was
done.           In present case Rhein 83 (OT Cap)
attachment were used. With cases involving edentulous saddles, resiliency can
be controlled with a wide range of retentive caps that have various levels of
elasticity and retention.

OT Cap is a resilient distal extension attachment. It is indicated
to be used with combined prostheses and removable partial dentures. For
treatment plans that require a rigid substructure with milling and adequate
counter attachments, OT Cap functions as a stabilizing retentive connector. In
addition, for treatment plans which require resiliency, OT Cap provides a
“Cushion Effect” similar to a shock absorber. This is achieved by the design of
the sphere in conjunction with the elastic retentive caps.The
successful prosthesis depend correct diagnosis and treatment planning keeping
in mind patient financial problem. Precision attachments is a technique
sensitive procedure. A thorough understanding of different types of attachments
available and knowledge of its material science is essential part of treatment
