In levels of greenhouse gases, yet I

In this essay
I will discuss climate change, its affects on the world today and my opinions
on this.

Climate
change refers to “a change in global
or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to
late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of
atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.” Climate Change
is one of the biggest issues in our world today, and if we don’t solve it, it
may become harder for generations to handle. In fact can we co-operate this? Or
else there wont be much of a world to bring our kids into.

Personally, I am
against the issue of climate change in all aspects. I don’t see any positivity
in this problematic cause, it creates issues upon issues in the world, which
need action to make right. However, will we make a change? The only reliability
is on humans. “Climate change is no longer some far-off issue; it is `happening
here. It is happening now.” Barak Obama

NASA is a United States
government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air
and space, they tell the
world about increasing temperatures for the world due to rising levels of
greenhouse gases, yet I don’t see much done about it…and they blame humans! Are
they as guilty as us? I think so.  Allow
me to reiterate, this is a real problematic cause for climate change. Greenhouse
gases are like a blanket around earth, trapping energy in the earth and causing
it to heat up. Alongside this are volcanic eruptions; an additional natural
cause of climate change “when volcanoes erupt, they emit a mixture of gases and
particles into the air. Some of them, such as ash and sulphur dioxide, have a
cooling effect, because they (or the substances they cause) reflect sunlight
away from the earth.” This
is easily deemed as problematic as once these gases are released the earth
warms up.

Scientists
now predict that there are losses of sea ice, accelerated sea
level rise and longer, more intense heat waves and that global change
is now occurring. Sources such as NASA state ” the average global
temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8° Celsius (1.4° Fahrenheit)
since 1880.” You may think it’s ‘not even a Celsius higher’ but it is
significant, a one or two degree change is all it took to start the little ice
age. WE may not be able to control these circumstances, but we can help reduce
these problems occurring.

I have only
mentioned the causes of global warming, now the effects are equally absurd.
There are many effects that will occur if global warming continues, for example
melting of ice caps and the North Pole. I personally cannot stress how
important this is because not only the ice caps melt, sea levels will rise
because glaciers develop into seas and, existing animals lose their homes and
habitats.

We should
really take this into account, notwithstanding the fact that the earth is
heating up – this affects human’s lifestyles and could result in serious
problems for not only us, but ecosystems too. A warmer climate can bring fluctuations
that may affect our agriculture, electric and transportation systems, water
supplies, natural environment, and even our own health and safety. We are rescinding
the globe’s ability to provide these things for us. This is not foreseeable it
is preventable. That we remain to degrade our environment is a conscious
political decision.

As well as natural causes of global warming, I hate to admit
that humans add to this just as much. The earth has been changing and adapting
to the humans rapid change in modern lifestyle. Human activities include
industrial production, burning fossil fuel, mining, cattle rearing or
deforestation.  Think of the little ways
in which you can save water, electricity and gas! “The violence that
exists in the human heart is a manifest in the symptoms of illness we see in
the earth, the water, the air and living things.” This is one of my favourite
quotes about climate change as it reiterates on the problem that we (humans)
violate our own ecosystem as if we are oblivious to the damage we will cause
not only now, but in the long run too.

Everything we use, for example technological gadgets; phones,
laptops, even transportation – cars etc. were all made from burning fossil
fuels in factories, which pollute the air.
Air pollution infects the ecosystem and impends the health of those who
all inhabit the earth. There is honestly do much that can be done about
problematic situations like this, however we as humans do not take this into
consideration, and most likely will not until it’s too late. In my opinion, I
think the biggest human cause of climate change is deforestation. This is the
cutting down of forests, woods, trees etc. to create paper, wood, build houses
etc. I am strongly against this human activity. Of course we need paper and
homes but this should not mean destroying habitats and these resources could be
made with different materials.

Now there are many ways we can implement a change in the
environment as a society, humans and the government need to move towards
solutions on these problems. To reduce global warming, we need to reduce the
issues that cause this; for example reducing green house gases, reducing the
use of transportation such as cars (this one is EASILY made to do), less trees
being cut etc. it’s all just a mater of actually moving forward and taking words
into actions. We can start with protests perhaps.

We must
make a change! The good news is that everyone can affect the environment
positively with a bit of mindful effort. Reducing your carbon footprints and
food miles are the first steps. When everyone makes a conscious effort to
reduce individual waste and think about the impact that their every action has
on the environment around them, a change is within reach. If everyone could
contribute to control global warming, the world would be a much cooler and
healthier ecosystem.
