Factors That Are Most Influential Essay

Factors that are most influential in shaping a person’s identity are one’s self-respect, one’s self-perception and the decisions one makes. Having self-respect on the decisions you make, having an awareness of the characteristics that make you, who you are and being confident in who are, are most influence in shaping your identity. Identity means, the fact of being who a person is. These are any traits, that you think define you. Whether these traits are bad or good, all depend on you and the decisions you make.

So having self-respect on the decisions you make, and never regretting them, have an impact on your identity. Having an awareness regrading everything you do, has an impact on your own self-perception, and will define who you are. The decisions you make, are most influential in your identity, because what you make of a situation, and how the decision you make, affects whether you made the situation worst or better, is how you think, and how you think is your identity. How these factors are most influential, I will explain, throughout my essay.

Chose to be different, to be who you are and not what society wants you to be. Make the decision, which no one else should have, an influence on. The decisions you make are what identifies yourself. The theme to “From Self-Reliance” is to go against on how society wants you to be, to be different and be misunderstood, and to work hard, then you will go a long way in life. “Speak what you think now in hard words, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict everything you said today-(“Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood”)” The reading from, “From Self-Reliance”.

In this statement the author is saying that, to work hard now, and work hard again tomorrow, to think differently, even if you change your mine everyday. With this you will be misunderstood, and to be misunderstood, is being your own self, because no one in the world is exactly who you are. So be confident in yourself, even if everyone is against you. “To be great is to be misunderstood. ” Says Ralph Waldo Emerson. The theme to “On Self-Respect” is to respect the decisions you make, and to not regret them. So respect yourself, don’t overwhelm yourself with feelings of guiltiness, and self-doubt.

Respect yourself, by accepting your decisions, and making yourself happy. Have self-perception, before you make a decision. Have awareness on the decisions you make, and think about how it is going to affect you. “To live without self-respect is to lie awake some night…counting sins of commission and omission, the trust betrayed, the promises subtly broken, the gifts irrevocably wasted through sloth or cowardice of carelessness…Whether or not we sleep in it depends, of course, on whether or not we respect ourselves. ” Statement from, “On Self-Respect. The author is saying that the people that stay up late at night, thinking about the bad decisions they’ve made, are the people without self-respect, but the people who do have self-respect sleep like a baby, because they accept or don’t regret the decision they have made. The theme to “Arriving at Perfection” is that you are your perfect self, and only you can make your own virtues that you would need in order to be your perfect self. This connects with my thesis because you cannot let other people change how you perceive yourself.

You are who you are, by the factors you chose to identify yourself with. You are your perfect self because no one in the world can be like you. You must have self-respect, to be your perfect self. Or to gain self-respect, make your own virtues in what you would need to be your perfect self. “…To fix it on one of them at a time, and when I should be Master of that, then to proceed to another, and so on till I should have gone thro’ the thirteen. ” Said Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin Franklin is saying that, once he has mastered all his virtues that he has set up for himself.

He, in his eyes, will become his perfect self. He will also have the factors of self-respect, self-perception and confidence. All those factors contribute to his identity. The theme to “Fatherhood and Manhood” is that, to be a good man, you must first become a good person. “So, first you become a good person, then you become a great man by filling in and practicing those special parts of you that make you the man you are best at being, and then you extend yourself and give yourself away until you feel that there is nothing left…

If you do these things I believe…you will also be the best man you can be and you will be the best person you can be. ” Says Rob Lieb. Rob Lieb is saying that, to be a good person, care for others, be kind and be the best of goodness you can be. With that you can be a “man. ” Be a “man” who gives without hesitation, and wants nothing in return. Be the “man” you want to be, and know all your doing is from the goodness of your heart. Rob Lieb is saying that you believe you are a good person, and do things that helps other people, then you are being the best of yourself.

By being the best of yourself, you are having respect for yourself. By making these good decisions, you have self-perception. You know exactly what your doing to become a “man,” and that influences your identity and how you perceive yourself. “From Self-Reliance,” “On Self-Respect,” “Arriving at Self-Perfection,” and “Fatherhood and Manhood,” connect with each other, because they are just saying, be your most perfect self, respect yourself and always have an awareness of the decision you make.

Factors that are most influential in shaping a person’s identity are one’s self-respect, one’s self-perception and the decisions one makes. Having self-respect on the decisions you make, having an awareness of the characteristics that make you, who you are and being confident in who are, are most influence in shaping your identity. These factors are most influential because respecting yourself, is what holds you together as a person. The decisions you make or made are as influential because whether that decision is bad or good, and whether you still respect yourself or not, show the person you are.

Also, your self-perception is a major influence to shaping your identity, because having an awareness of the characteristics and decisions you make, define who you are. Identify yourself, the way you think best. Think about your decisions you’ve made, or will make, because they will affect you and everyone around you. Have self-respect, and confidence in yourself and the decisions you make or made. Be aware to new insights regrading your self-perception. And just be you.
