DEFINATION: methane, water vapour and nitrous oxide

atmospheric heating phenomena. The earth experiences a rise in temperature.
This is because certain gases in the atmosphere allow incoming sunlight to pass
through. However, the heat radiated is trapped from the Earth’s surface. Global
warming is causing a set of changes to the Earth’s climate, or long-term
weather patterns, that varies from place to place. Global warming is causing
the change in rhythms of climate which all living things have come to depend

gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping. Gasses such as carbon
dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane and water vapour. Long-lived gases such as
nitrous oxide, methane, and carbon dioxide that do not respond physically or
chemically and remain semi-permanently in the atmosphere to changes in
temperature are to be said as “forcing” climate change. Gases, such
as water vapor, which respond chemically or
physically to changes in temperature are said as “feedbacks.”

warming has serious impact towards our economy, environment and health. Increasing
in severity and frequency of dangerous heat waves. Accelerating in the rise of sea
level. In some areas, there is a tremendous rise in storms. More severe
droughts are occurring in others. Collectively, these effects is very dangerous
to the entire planet which includs you, your community, and your family.

change” instead of global warming is the term often used by scientists. The
reason why is because as the Earth’s average temperature climbs, winds and
ocean currents move heat around the globe. They move in ways that changes the
amount of snow falling and rain, can warm others and cool some areas. This
shows, the climate changes differently in different areas.

we burn fossil fuels, natural gas, coal, and oil in order to power our
vehicles, heat our homes and generate electricity, carbon dioxide (CO2) is
being release into the atmosphere.

heat-trapping gases such as methane, water vapour and nitrous oxide and carbon
dioxide rise into the atmosphere. Like a blanket wrapping Earth, they spread
around the globe. This blanket protects it from the cold air above it and makes
the surface of the Earth warmer.

blanket is uncomfortably made thicker by the increased concentrations of
heat-trapping gases. The thick blanket wrapped now, warms up the surface of the
Earth. This then heats the blanket itself, and traps more heat in the lower
atmosphere. The blanket also prevents heat moving from the lower atmosphere to
the stratosphere is also prevented by the blanket. This will result in cooling
down the stratosphere.

other words, to creating the cooling conditions in the atmosphere which lead to
ozone depletion, heat-trapping gases is the main reason. Greenhouse gases
absorb heat at relatively low altitudes. This will warm the surface of the
Earth. However, greenhouse gases have the opposite effect in higher altitudes.
This is because they prevent heat from rising.

and clouds also prevent the dissipation of these heat radiation, so exert
greenhouse effect.

1)      Burning of fossil fuel

activities are changing the natural greenhouse, on Earth. The concentration of
carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere has increased in the pass 100 years due
to the burning of fossil fuels such as oil and coal. This happens because
carbon combines with oxygen in the air during the process of burning oil and
coal to make CO2. CO2 absorbs the long wavelength infrared radiation emitted by
the earth’s surface.

2)      Deforestation

have been cutting down trees to produce build houses, wood, papers, and many
more. Concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will increase if humans
continue to do deforestation. This is because there will be no tress to absorb
excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Besides, human also release carbon
dioxide when breathe. Therefore the amounts of millions of people breath have
release carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Human breathing that release carbon
dioxide will stay at the atmosphere, if human continue deforestation.

3)      Mining

methane will trap below the earth, during the process of mining. Other then
that, rearing cattle will also cause methane. This is because cattle released
the form of manure. However, cattle is significant. This is because it make the
latter equally responsible for the happening of global warming.

1)      Increase in global temperature

increase in temperatures around the world is one of the most obvious effects of
global warming. Over the past 100 years, the average global temperature has
increased by about 0.8 degrees Celsius according to the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

2)      Melting of polar ice caps (refer appendix 15)

of the ice caps of poles and glaciers is caused by the increasing global temperature
and heat. Sea level increases by 1.88 mm per year from the year 1961 all cross
the world due to the melting of ice. However, it has increased by 3.1 mm per
year from the year 1993. In the coming years it would increase to a large
extent. This will cause more natural disaster to come more often. Continuous
change in the temperature of the water and chemical compositions will be caused
by melting glaciers. The sea life is disturbed by the increasing water
temperature and force them to die or migrate. The Coral life will be wiped out
in the current years. Because of the changing icy habitat, some of the sea
mammals such as penguins and polar bear are dying out or migrating.

3)      Ocean acidification (refer appendix 16)

acidification is one of the factor that is affected by global warming. One of
the greenhouse gases that causes global warming is carbon dioxide. The carbon
dioxide is mixed more with sea water due to the rise in sea levels and
precipitation. This is a major concern for ocean life, especially coral according
to a report in the “Open Democracy”.

4)      Human health

effect of global warming on human health, in addition to less nutritious food
is also expected to be serious. An increase in mosquito-borne diseases like
dengue fever and malaria, as well as a rise in cases of chronic conditions like
asthma, has been reported by the American Medical Association most likely as a
direct result of global warming. The dangers of climate change was highlighted
when the 2016 outbreak of Zika virus (refer appendix 17), a mosquito-borne
illness. devastating birth defects in foetuses (refer appendix 18) is caused by
the disease when pregnant women are infected. Said the experts, climate change
could make higher-latitude areas habitable for the mosquitos that spread the
disease. Longer, hotter summers could also lead to the spread of tick-borne

1)      The ice Arctic animals need is vanishing. Mammals such
as walruses and polar bears struggle to survive as sea ice disappears,
ice-dependent. Because of global warming, the polar bear became the first
animal to make the Endangered Species Act list of threatened species in 2008. (refer
appendix 19)

1)       Carpool or
Drive Less:

driving less, you are not only helping in reducing global warming but also
saving fuel which means you are also saving your money. Look out for other
possibilities, for an example, carpooling. You can combine trips, if you have
colleagues who live in the same area. Go by cycle or walk if you need to go to
a local market. They are both great form of exercise by the way. The biggest
pollution emitting fumes are caused by gasoline and oil. Huge step to reducing
energy wastes is by cutting down consumption.

2)      Use compact
fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs:

of using incandescent light bulb, replace it with compact fluorescent light
(CFL) bulbs. Compared to ordinary bulbs, they consume 70% less energy and have
longer lifetime.

3)      Plant more trees:

any other method, planting trees can help better in reducing global warming. During
the process of photosynthesis, they not only give oxygen but also take in
carbon dioxide, which is the main source of global warming.

4)      Become Part of the Global Warming Community:

with others will help you become more conscious of the impact we all have. The Global
Humanitarian Forum and Climate Change National Forum are great avenues to know
the latest effect, statistics, and facts in making a difference.

5)      Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:

eco-friendly products. It is most effective of the three R’s. It simply says
cut back from where are you now. Reuse plastic containers, bottles, and other
items bought at the grocery store. Reusing bread ties, yogurt cups, water
bottles, and other items is being conscious about what is already out there. This
will help to lessen the purchase of other items that would the same function.
Try to convert the disposable products into some other form which will benefit.
Do not just throw them away.

unwanted bottles, paper and other thing is a great earth saving tip. You can
recycle almost anything for an example newspapers, can, aluminium foils, paper and
may more. By recycling you can help in reducing landfills.
