Rise in Temperature:

According to Japan Meteorological Agency, there is rise in temperature by 1.15 degree Celsius in Japan from 1898 to 2010 which is considerably higher than the global temperature of the world that is only 0.74 degree Celsius over the last century. (Hopper, 2013)

Seasonal effect: 

Due to the climate change and rise in temperature, it has affected the plants and insects.  The plants are growing as earlier each spring and insects are appearing late. At the same time the winter is getter warmer and warmer which imbalance the ecosystem of environment. (Hopper, 2013)

Sea-Level Rise:

There is increase in the rate of sea level by 5 millimeters each year since 1993 in Japan and it is likely to continue throughout the 21st century as well.  This has increase threat to 46 % of population and 47% industrial outputs. Also chances of soil erosion in coastal area.  If there is 1 meter increase in sea-level than Japan will lost 90 percent of sandy beaches which will cost US$ (115 billion and 1 trillion)  in preventive and assets at risk associated to it. (Case & Tidwell)

Food Production:

Due to the global warming the production of food has been impacted. Japan import 60% of food compared to US which import 25% of food. Japan imports major cereals, wheat, maize and soybean from the US, Australia and Brazil. If this goes on the total production agriculture product such as paddy rice is likely to decrease by 12 to 13% in the middle of this century. In coming future the food pattern of Japan will change along with the forest structure and natural environments. (Anon, n.d.)

Impacts to Humans:

The increase in the temperature has increase the heat waves intensity and heat stress which create the age risk such as aging. Alongside it increases likelihood of waterborne diseases, allergy-related disease and others. There is also expansion of dengue fever in Japan.

Likewise, the demand for water supply has also been increase from 1.2 to 3.2 % with just 3% warming in the climate. Furthermore, the fresh water system has been deteriorated affecting fish production as well as harvest. (Case & Tidwell)

Impacts to natural systems:

The geographical distribution due to climate change has affected the marine and terrestrial species. The stress of geographic structure has led to likelihood of species extension.  There is extension of plant species such as alpine. The migration pattern and breeding of some species such as Whooper swans, Steller’s sea eagles, and Japanese crane has change. Increase in unwanted and harmful pests, diseases and species. (Case & Tidwell)

Increasing Risk of Heavy Rain induced disasters:

The increase in heavy rain will caused the flood in Japan. The rivers will arise the flood when the river exceed its level by 4.4 times from 1.8 the current value. In addition, this will cause mass movement of mountain increasing the probability of landslide, soil erosions due to the collapsing of bedrock of the topsoil. (Climate Change and Its Impacts in Japan, 2013)
